Cardholder Tips

  • Memorize your PIN and never write it on your card or store it with your card in your purse or wallet. No company or person should ever ask you for your PIN, not even us, your bank. Don't let cashiers or anyone else see you enter your PIN during a purchase or cash withdrawal at an ATM
  • Be extremely careful when shopping online. Look for secure site signs such as the website address beginning with "https://" or a "padlock" symbol in the address bar. Consider using third-party payment processors such as PayPal. This way you only give your debit card information to one site, instead of multiple sites
  • Protect your card number and card security code (CSC) found on the back of your card. Activate new or reissued cards as soon as you get them and destroy any old or unused cards. Avoid sending your card number through email or text messages or over the phone unless you initiated the call
  • Select an ATM in a safe, public areas and visit during daylight hours. You can also opt for machines that are commonly found in lobbies, rather than out on a street. And as always, keep your PIN secure and never share with anyone
  • Let your bank know you are traveling. We are always monitoring transactions that may appear out of the cardholder's ordinary habits so that fraud attempts can be deterred. There may be some states, or countries, that have been blocked by the card processor due to high counts of fraudulent activity. By notifying or contacting your bank before you leave, you may help eliminate phone calls to confirm account activity, or even worse, a decline when the card is swiped
  • Stay on top of your balances daily through online banking or our mobile app. Safe-keep or securely dispose of your transaction receipts and review your statements to verify that the receipts reflect the amount you authorized. Also watch for multiple charges
